3 Tips for Caring for Your Skin When You Love Winter Sports

We’ve finally had some snow here on the Front Range, and it’s reminding us how much we love all that Colorado has to offer to people in the winter. Whether you’re an avid skier or snowboarder, snowshoer, or just sledding with the kids in your life, the winter is harsh on skin! So we wanted to share with you the top 3 tips for taking care of your skin if you love winter sports.

Don’t Forget the SPF!

Sure, spending your afternoon by the pool seems like the more obvious time to lather on the sunscreen. But anyone who has gotten one of those cool sunburns around your ski goggles knows SPF is just as important during the winter months. Especially if you’re going to be doing a high-exposure activity like spending the day skiing or snowshoeing, SPF is a must!

If you’re someone that doesn’t appreciate the heavy feeling of most sunscreens on your face, try out Trilipiderm’s Protective Day Creme with Broad Spectrum SPF 30. This day creme is non-greasy, lightweight, and also infused with hyaluronic acid to plump the skin. It’s perfect to wear under your makeup and protects from UVA and UVB rays. Pick some up next time your at the spa!

Moisture, Moisture, Moisture

Besides the SPF, you’ve got to do all you can to keep your skin hydrated in the winter. Heavy-duty moisturizers can act as a barrier from the elements (wind and sun), which is helpful for everything from your afternoon walk with the dog to your day on the slopes.

We carry a number of moisturizers and are always happy to recommend products to you based on you skin needs. Here are a few products we love, but there are many more, so please ask next time you are in.

One product we often recommend for daytime hydration is PCA’s HydraLuxe. This moisturizer deeply hydrates the skin and has anti-aging benefits, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The are a few moisturizers we often recommend for your nighttime regimen. One of them is Rhonda Allison’s Infuse 7, which you can find online or at Skin Deep. This serum is packed with seven essential nutrients for your skin, including omegas, vitamin E, avocado oil, and macadamia oil. For restoration and hydration overnight, we can’t speak highly enough of Trilipiderm’s Rehydration Night Creme, which you can buy here at the spa. This cream stimulates cell renewal while you sleep and hydrates and plumps to reduce the appearance of fine lines.

And for a great moisturizer you can use morning and night, ask us about PCA’s Silkcoat Balm. This product is designed just for people living in harsh and cold environments and gives the skin what it needs to stay hydrated and prevent the signs of aging. Ask about it next time you’re in.

Of course, as with all of our products, if you aren’t sure which ones are right for you, just ask us about it next time you’re in, or give us a call. We love to hear your main concerns and then match you with products that will address your individual needs.

Remember the Lips!

Again, anyone who has been skiing and forgot SPF on their lips knows that brutal sun and windburn feeling. And even if you remember to lather up your face with sunscreen, it can be easy to forget about the lips. Make sure to use SPF on your lips when enjoying your outdoor winter sports! And if you missed it, check out our recent blog about dry lips and how to heal them.

Schedule a Facial (And Let’s Talk Product)

At Skin Deep, we are all about creating your best skin with skincare treatments at the spa and an at-home regimen to support it. At-home skincare is vital, especially in the dry winter months, even more so if you spend a lot of time enjoying outdoor winter activities. So, make sure to schedule your monthly facial and if you have any questions about moisturizers or daily SPF, please make sure to ask!
