What You Need to Know About Waxing

Let’s face it, many of us have unwanted body hair, and getting rid of it can be obnoxious and downright awkward! But at Skin Deep, we love helping people feel their most confident with waxing services!

Pulling down your undies for a bikini wax might be out of the norm for you, but trust us! We do it every day, and it’s not uncomfortable for us! We’re here to help you get rid of that unwanted hair so you can rock your bathing suit without worrying about unsightly razor burn or the surprise super-long hair you missed when shaving.

Before You Wax

At Skin Deep, we’ll wax anything you need! We have pricing available on our website if you’re interested. We do waxing services for both women and men since everyone has a different desired aesthetic regarding body hair.

Our most popular waxing services for women include bikini or Brazillian wax, full arm, full leg, underarm, eyebrows, and lip/chin. Popular services for men include back, chest, eyebrows, nose, and ears.

Before your waxing appointment, here’s what you need to know:

  • Let the hair grow for two weeks before the appointment. If you shave, tweeze, or use a different hair removal method too close to your appointment, the hair won’t be long enough to wax.

  • Don’t exfoliate before the appointment—this is a common misconception. Exfoliating can make your skin more sensitive, so you want to save exfoliation for after your wax.

  • If you’re coming in for a bikini or Brazilian wax, avoid scheduling the week right before or the week of your menstrual cycle since your skin will be more sensitive.

  • For facial waxing, skip applying retinols for one week before a wax, as they’ll make your skin more sensitive.

After You Wax

To reduce sensitivity and bumps/ingrown hairs after a wax, here are a few things you can do:

  • If you know you’re prone to ingrown hairs/razor burn, please let us know! We have a few products on hand we can recommend that are great at reducing or eliminating ingrown hairs.

  • Avoid hot showers and hot tubs for a few days after your wax.

  • Avoid excess friction after a bikini wax (you know what we mean 😉) to avoid irritation and potential risk of infection. Waiting 24-48 hours after a wax is typically recommended by experts, but of course, it’s your personal preference!

  • For facial waxing, skip applying retinols for a few days after a wax to give your skin time to recover.
