How Do Retinols Help Keep Your Skin Rejuvenated at Home?
Don’t you love that fresh, smooth feeling after a facial? Keep the smoothness going at home by adding a retinol to your home care routine. In this blog, we’ll share why retinols are so helpful in rejuvenating your skin and some of our favorite retinols that we carry here in the spa. As with all of our products, our estheticians customize suggestions depending on your skin's needs, so just ask which retinol would be best for you next time you’re in!
What is retinol, and why is it helpful for maintaining healthy skin?
Retinol is simply a form of Vitamin A, and it helps maintain healthy skin by accelerating your skin’s natural renewal process. Roughly every 28 days, our old skin cells are replaced by new skin cells. This process does slow down as we age, so exfoliation is a natural way to speed this process along so you have bright, soft skin.
There are several ways to exfoliate the skin, including scrubs, masks, and, like we’re highlighting today, retinols.
When a retinol product has the chance to do its magic, you’ll notice reduced pigmentation, reduced scarring, improved texture, smaller pores, and reduced fine lines. Retinols are also effective in treating acne.
How do I know which retinol product is right for me?
With the variety of retinol products available, and considering that AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) like glycolic acid and mandelic acid, have similar effects, we suggest asking your esthetician for a product recommendation next time you’re in.
Each product line that we carry in our store has at least one, if not multiple, retinol products for different skin types, including PCA, Jan Marini, and Rhonda Allison.
There is something for everyone, so if you’re looking to address:
Acne
Aging
Skin Texture
Hyperpigmentation
Acne Scarring
…there is a retinol product for you! And, if you have sensitive skin, there are retinol products for you, too!
Tips for Effective Use
Retinols are designed to be used at night, allowing the gentle exfoliation to happen while you sleep. Our PCA retinol products are even formulated with a 10-hour time release, so you get the lasting effects of the cream all night!
Especially for those with sensitive skin, but for anybody, it’s best to start out using a retinol a few nights a week, and then increase use as your skin gets acclimated to the product.
And, it’s important to note no matter which retinol your esthetician recommends, make sure you’re protecting your skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day.
Ask Your Esthetician Which Retinol is Right For You
To make significant changes in your skin at home, a retinol product is the perfect thing to add to your regimen. Just chat with your esthetician next time you’re in to see which product would be best for your skin type and needs. See you soon!
